Postcards from Team Pasta Grannies

Team Pasta Grannies love to travel outside of their trips filming grannies, and this summer has been no exception.

From Greek Tavernas, to historic Edinburgh, as well as Spanish Isles, and Caribbean Seas, the team have been exploring the world through their eyes (and their bellies). And while on our travels we’ve snapped photos of landmarks and landscapes — some of us even managed to find some Global grannies! Read some more of our highlights below.

Where have we been?

Vicky, Producer, Italy

My latest book will be out in late spring 2026. And you can’t sell a book without its cover, nor the pictures within it. We’re shooting 40 new photos to be printed inside along with portraits of le nonne and scenic stills of filming locations. And I had a lovely team on hand to help.

Gaia was cooking, with Benedetta on food styling, and Livia’s cooking skills came in handy at many points along the way too.

Saghar, our photographer is non-stop snapping, while Tina, the editor, made sure everything sticks to our brief. And me? Well, I hosted; the shoot happened in my house. I enjoyed being a photographer’s assistant, side kick to the food stylist, and generally helping keep to our intense schedule.

It wasn’t all hard work, though. When the day was wrapped, we enjoy the nearby sunflower fields at sunset, relaxing and debriefing together with an aperitivo in hand on the terrace.

Linda, Social Media Manager, Crete

“I recently spent some time in Crete, in the Rethymo area. We explored some incredible places, including the palm-lined Preveli Beach, where the river meets the sea.

The food throughout the trip was a highlight — rich, traditional, and often centred around good-quality grilled meat. We kicked things off with a pork souvlaki gyros by the beach, yet our most memorable meal came at the end of our stay at a small taverna tucked away in the hills called Armos.

Here, we were greeted by lovely Violeta and Nicholas. Violeta does all the cooking herself and everything that came out of her kitchen had been passed down through generations. We didn’t even look at the menu; they took care of everything.

We ate crispy saganaki, courgette croquettes, and a slow-cooked goat stifado.

And, our meal ended with their sweet but punchy raki liqueur infused with honey.”

Livia, Granny Finder & Research, Edinburgh

“I recently travelled to Edinburgh for a concert for one of my favourite pianists, Ludovico Einaudi.

The concert was set in the grounds of the castle, and was a beautiful sunset affair.

While there, as always, I enjoyed exploring the supermarkets and delicatessens and I looked at what they were selling — especially the pasta. Not sure if nonnas would agree with beef ravioli in a tin!

On my travels I ate a lot of cod.

Some as traditional fish and chips, and others in a more ‘‘cheffy’ style. And, just to prove I was there, I managed to snap some selfies in the beautiful central gardens with the castle in the background too.

Michaella, Website Editor, Saint Lucia

“Alongside writing for Pasta Grannies, I write freelance food and travel features for London magazines. Last week, it took me to the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia for a press trip.

While there, we had a representative from Saint Lucia’s tourism board who gave us inside scoop on places to visit and people to meet; it wasn’t all just tanning on the beach. Alongside attending pre-carnival events, I even managed to find some grannies!

One of my highlights was a quad biking tour of the island where we climbed steep gradients above banana farms to meet a local community in the Irie Valley.

There, villagers demonstrated the old fashioned methods for shelling coconuts to extract the pulp to make cassava bread. Then later in the week, we attended a local street party in Gros Islet where I met Tina, who runs a rum bar every Friday.

When I asked what made her rum punch different from the other stands, she replied: ‘I use local spices that I grow myself, but my main ingredient? It’s love!’ — that was enough to convince me to try it. Fruity, warmly-spiced, and served with a big smile; it tasted like tropical Christmas.

Megan, Producer, Menorca

“I recently went away with my family for a week to the beautiful island of Menorca. I lived in Granada for a few months in my 20s and quickly became obsessed with pan con tomate for breakfast.

So, my first port of call when we arrived in Mahon was to get some (and a coffee) – delicious! The size of the tomatoes and lemons we encountered there were notably large (and delicious)!

Our last day there was my favourite; we took a kayak out from a beach called És Grau just outside of Mahon.

My partner, son, and I paddled our way to a beautiful national park with white sand and crystal waters.

We explored a few idyllic coves before our arms were very tired and it was time for food.

We headed into a nearby town called Na Macaret to a restaurant called És Raco. It was a tiny, unassuming little restaurant but we had the most amazing crayfish paella which was the perfect finish to our day.”
